Here are a few notes for reps new to the Bad Boy Mowers account:
Please take a moment to update your station's contact information here: Contact Info, including your manager's info. I end up using this info a lot when reps like you decide to move on to greener pastures and forget to inform me and then your emails start bouncing back. Happens all the time. So, please make sure to update ALL the people on that list (you, your sales assistant, your traffic manager, your local sales manager, your general sales manager). For buys in 2026, I will be updating my contact list to what is on this spreadsheet, so PLEASE make sure that it is correct, updated, etc. (please let me know if you are a new market and I haven't added your market to the spreadsheet yet!!)
I know that you are new to the account and might have questions and want to chat. However, I work with literally all the people on that Contact Info sheet...that's thousands of contacts. I don't often have time to take calls. Additionally, this is my second job, so I usually am working over the weekend on things. If you want to call me and leave a voicemail, or text me, feel free to reach me at 501-519-1815. But you're more likely to get a response via email. I have even had a rep send me a video asking questions before, LOL! Whatever works for you!
That being said, I WILL respond to your emails (you can message me at jill@escapemedia.us or jill.escapemedia@gmail.com) ....sometimes more quickly than others. So, email me all of your questions. Please note that when I send out mass emails, I am getting hundreds of responses each DAY, so it takes some time to go through them. When everyone sends multiple messages and follow-ups, it really slows things down. So, just send the one message and I'll get back to you ASAP. If it's a time sensitive emergency, text me. Also, no need to email me "thanks"....I know you appreciate the message. It just fills up my in-box for no reason.
I tend to send really long emails with lots of information (sorry/not sorry?). I know that you are a sales person and probably don't have the sit-and-read personality, lol! But I promise you I have tried to answer all of your questions before you even ask in my long message, so it's worth a read so we don't have to have a lot of back and forth.
Please please please, I beg of you, put your name, market, affiliate, call letters in your signature line (when you communicate with ANY of us...me, Nathan, Bob, etc.). When you send an email from john@sbgtv.com and no signature line or just a "News 16" logo, I literally have no idea who you are. It makes me waste time being a detective and searching for clues in your message. Make it easy on a girl. (and if you want to include a picture, that's fun too! I like to see what you look like! Here's me: https://www.jillrosewoodevans.com/about)
Bad Boy is sometimes slow to make decisions. And sometimes it's taking a long time because I asked 400 people for something and while you probably sent it by my deadline, I have another 25% of my stations who had something come up and need to submit like a month after the fact. I can't send in the proposal to be reviewed by the client until I have everyone's. (so please be considerate and send your stuff in on time) I know that you will have quoted me something months ago and you want to know the status. I will give status updates as I get them. I promise you will never just be left wondering forever. I let everyone know what's going on eventually, even if you didn't make the buy. Just be patient.
Just as an FYI, I am a small (just me! ) consulting firm who works closely with Nathan and Lindsey at Bad Boy Mowers. Escape Media is the name of my firm. However, you won't need to know that for any reason. Everything should go through Bad Boy Media. I am not the agency of record. Bad Boy uses an in-house agency, Bad Boy Media. Bob at Hooper Productions (hooperproductions@att.net) sends out the spots, Nathan Wilson (nathan.wilson@badboycountry.com) at Bad Boy is the one who sends out traffic and is the one to contact about invoices. Invoicing should be sent to ap@badboymowers.com, or 102 Industrial Dr., Batesville, AR 72501. Lindsey is the VP of Marketing and is the primary decision maker. You won't need to contact her for any reason.
On a very personal note, I am actually on the autism spectrum. So, if at some point I am accidentally rude to you, please know that it isn't intentional (unless you have been rude to me first, then it's 100% intentional ). I have things set up in a very particular way because it has to be for me to be able to handle the workload this client requires. We work with hundreds of markets and I am being as efficient as possible. I have also worked with this client for 18 years, so I'm kind of working in a groove. I generally have an idea of what they will go for and what they won't. That doesn't mean that sometimes I don't make mistakes. It does (very infrequently) happen! LOL! So, if I have made a mistake, just politely let me know.
I have a digital file on your station. It has your proposals and buys dating back to 2016. I send a link to this file every time I send a buy or an avail request. Please hang onto these links. You know how to save an email. It really does slow me down to have to dig through stuff to re-send you links. I am usually responding via my phone, so finding and sending links is a bit more challenging. That being said, I'll give you a pass this time around. If you respond to this message requesting that link, I'm happy to send it.
The nitty gritty:
For the Spring buy, I almost always will send you a spreadsheet where you will enter your avails. You will need to hold onto the link I send you so that you can update the spreadsheet throughout the length of the buy. This spreadsheet is a LIVE spreadsheet. You DO NOT need to email it back to me. The second you update it with your information, I have it. You and I can work on it simultaneously.
We are always Men 25-54.
I look at impressions, not ratings. I prefer to view in thousands (000) format. So, it should look like 14.100, not 14,100. Make sense?
I am expecting you to submit GROSS :30 rates. If you submit something different and do not make that clear, there will be mass confusion and someone isn't going to get paid what they expected.
We do Calendar billing, unless otherwise noted. Yes, my spreadsheet fumbled the ball on this in 2025 Spring. I'm hoping to fix that this year!! :)
I prefer ComScore, but if all you have is Nielsen, that's fine too. I do not subscribe...it would be insanely expensive to do that with all of our markets. So, I'm relying on you to provide me with numbers. I appreciate your help with this!
When placing buys, unless otherwise specified, we want spots to run equally with horizontal and vertical separation. No less than 20 minute separation. No exceptions!
Buy philosophy - essentially, lowest CMP gets the cake. I will look at other factors such as what percentage you posted the previous year, whether it is a political year, whether you kept your rates the same over last year, if you're willing to provide bonus weight, etc. But generally speaking, we look at CPM. When you send in information, if you include all of those details in your submission, chef's kiss. You're the best!
I look at stations individually. So, everything you send needs to be individually tailored for each station. The spreadsheets should only have one station on them. The Post Buy Analysis should be run for stations individually. They are separate entities.
Budgets are always the biggest question. Budgets and markets selected for the buy are based on station rates vs. mower sales in each particular market. I don't make those decisions, Lindsey and Nathan do. A number of other factors go into those decisions, so it isn't solely based on year over year performance by the station.
Have more questions? Send them my way. I try not to gatekeep. I will let you know as much as I am able to. Oh! And make sure to add me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jillrosewoodevans/
Thanks for reading!
